6 Reasons Why You Should Thank God for Sex

Don't say the S word.

No, I'm not referring to the one that will earn you a PG-13 rating in the box office, I'm talking about the one that the church tends to shy away from. You know the S word that parents let the world teach their children and not the Word of God. If you are thinking about the one that makes people cringe when declared within church walls I think you got it.....

SEX

Sorry guys, it had to be said. Source: Giphy

God never wanted sex to be taboo, on the contrary when we read His Word, he wants it to be celebrated! The closest connection, between sex and the church, I recall growing up is my continued bewilderment of how a woman's chest can resemble two fawns. Besides that, it was all left up to my perception through the world's eyes.

Thankfully, Pastor Aaron walked us through places in the Bible were sex was not only good, but encourages to fulfill specific purposes. Here are the six reasons why you should thank God for creating sex:

1. Pleasure

This may be the only thing the world tells us about sex. We've all heard ad nauseam how great it is, but mostly from what the world wants us to know about it.

If you simply read Song of Solomon 7:1-9, you will clearly see that God created sex between a committed man and wife to be pleasurable. No kids are mentioned here, just some fawns, clusters of fruit, and some adventurous climbing.

2. Children

The more reserved people are celebrating this one, "See I told you. It's all about procreation." Meh, partially correct.

Clearly God created sex to be pleasurable (as seen above), but let's not forget his commandment He gave to Adam and Eve. Not long after Adam was given his better half, the Lord spoke to them in Genesis 1:28 saying, "Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it."

So not only did Adam have a beautiful, wiser, and loving counter-part created for him, instructed that he could and should have sex with his new wife, but also they will have off-spring which will have dominion on the earth.

Man's best day period.

3. Knowledge

As Pastor Aaron said, a husband's golf partners will not know a man like his wife does. What happens in a sanctified bed between a husband and wife is a connection that cannot and should not be replicated between any other human beings outside of that relationship.

Ephesians 5:25 gives clear instruction, "Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her." In case you weren't aware, Jesus has a pretty good idea of what happens inside the church, more so than us who fill them every weekend. Similarly, through love and affection, husbands and wives are to mirror that initmate knowledge with Christ as our example.

4. Protection

Sadly, you can flip to most T.V. stations and see a show about adultery and having sex outside of marriage. The excuses are endless:

  • I was bored
  • I didn't love him/her anymore
  • It would get me ahead of life

But the one that is not only echoed in Hollywood, but in tons of real lives is "We just don't have sex or have the desire to anymore." God knows the void that this can create in a marriage, and ironically the only way God can, uses Paul of all people to express this idea.

In 1 Corinthians 7:5, Paul warns us what happens when married couples do not use sex as protection in marriage, "Do not deprive each other except perhaps by mutual consent and for a time, so that you may devote yourselves to prayer. Then come together again so that Satan will not tempt you because of your lack of self-control."

When a husband and wife allow themselves to lose intimacy, whether it's due to children, a job or whatever, they are allowing the enemy to plant seeds that will only grow weeds.

5. Comfort

We'll skip the details for the sake of time, but David made a huge boo boo by sleeping with his friend's wife Bathsheba. The Lord punishes the couple by making their child ill, resulting in his death.

Bathsheba overcome by grief becomes inconsolable. David answers this sadness in a true typical man fashion and "comforts his wife Bathsheba, and he went to her and made love to her." The rest is history.

Although God forgave David for his sin, it did not go without punishment. By marrying and comforting his new wife, David's favor from the Lord clearly showed resulting in the future king of Israel, Solomon.

6. Oneness

All the parents with a kid still kicking it their basement should be happy for this one. God's final reason for creating sex is creating oneness between a man and woman.

Genesis 2:24 says, "That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife, and they become one flesh." A man is no longer his own, and a woman not her own. But they become one.

Now do you see why the golf partners just don't fit the bill.
